Zunibal publishes its first Sustainability Report and reinforces its commitment to responsible fishing

Zunibal, a leading company in developing technological solutions for the fishing sector, publishes its first Sustainability Report. This report outlines the company’s key contributions, achievements, and vision, highlighting its commitment to innovation and its positive impact on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas during the 2023-2024 period.
During this period, Zunibal achieved a 38.8% reduction in energy intensity. Additionally, more than 91% of its energy consumption comes from renewable sources, preventing the emission of over 19 tons of CO₂ equivalent. Regarding logistics, the company reduced its carbon footprint associated with international product transportation by 47.2%. Another significant milestone is that 95% of its products are certified under the UNE 14006 eco-design standard, ensuring that technological developments incorporate sustainability criteria from their inception.
Ibone Rodríguez de Pablo, Director and shareholder of Zunibal, stated that “The publication of this first Sustainability Report marks a milestone for us. It reflects the collaborative efforts of everyone at Zunibal. Our belief is that technological innovation must always be accompanied by a firm social and environmental commitment.“
As a notable innovation, Zunibal introduces Searcle, a strategic program created to promote sustainability and the circular economy through technological innovation across all its areas of impact: protection of marine ecosystems, fishing efficiency, coastal community development, circular economy, and strategic alliances. This program, launched in 2024, emerged from the collaborative efforts of Zunibal’s Sustainability Committee and reflects the effective integration of ESG principles into the company’s global strategy.
In innovation, Zunibal has developed Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) with compostable and biodegradable materials, a solution that reduces marine waste without compromising operational effectiveness. Additionally, Zunibal has strengthened its strategic position by acquiring a 20% stake in Cambrian Intelligence, a leading company in artificial intelligence for the fishing sector, aiming to integrate advanced systems to optimize operational efficiency and minimize impacts on marine ecosystems.
The company is committed to responsible technology, with tools that optimize catches and reduce bycatch, directly contributing to marine resource conservation.

The Report also reflects Zunibal’s active commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in marine protection, fishing efficiency, circular economy, and strengthening strategic partnerships.
