Echoview delivered its Fundamentals course in echosounder data processing through the Zunibal-UPV Chair
The course brought the expertise of Echoview, a Zunibal company specialising in hydroacoustics and scientific software development, to UPV’s Gandia Campus. The training took place through the Zunibal-UPV Chair, which builds on twelve years of collaboration between Zunibal and the university in fisheries acoustics.

From 26 to 30 October 2026, Echoview delivered its Fundamentals course in echosounder data processing for scientific applications at the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). The five-day programme combined theory and practical work with single-beam and multibeam echosounder data.
The course was designed for students, researchers and professionals working with echosounders in marine research, including those new to the field and those looking to update their knowledge. Led by Dr Toby Jarvis from Echoview’s scientific team, the programme covered the full process of working with echosounder data: from acoustic theory, data exploration and calibration to data cleaning, target detection and tracking, and target classification and characterisation. This is Echoview’s flagship course, completed by hundreds of acoustics specialists worldwide over the past decade.

A collaboration connecting research and training
The training formed part of the Zunibal-UPV Chair, established in 2026 to promote training, research and knowledge transfer in fisheries acoustics. The initiative builds on twelve years of collaboration and provides a framework for new activities between the university and the company.
Based at the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Gandia and led by Professor Isabel Pérez Arjona, the Chair aims to help improve marine remote sensing systems and align them with international scientific standards.
Its programme also includes industry placements, specialist training, meetings with sector professionals, and support for students working on their bachelor’s and master’s degree projects.
Bringing Echoview’s expertise to specialist training
Echoview has been part of the Zunibal group since 2025 and has more than three decades of experience developing software for processing, analysing and visualising hydroacoustic data.
Through the practical course in Gandia, Echoview brought this specialist knowledge into a university setting. The training supported one of the Chair’s aims: providing access to tools and knowledge that connect academic learning with research and professional practice in fisheries acoustics.
