Installation of photovoltaic solar panels
Zunibal is further committing to sustainability by expanding its power generation capacity through the installation of 30.3kW peak power photovoltaic solar panels.
This project has been funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, through the incentive program approved by Royal Decree 477/2021 on June 29th, within the framework of the overall Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
The total capacity of the photovoltaic installation located on the roof of the manufacturing plant in Derio (Bizkaia) amounts to 66 kW peak, which is expected to generate 70,900 kWh of clean energy annually, avoiding the emission into the environment of 19.3 tons of CO 2 eq.
More than 85% of the generated energy is consumed in internal processes, and since the system operates on a surplus self-consumption basis, any excess energy is fed back into the electrical grid, thus utilizing the full capacity of the installation.
Initiatives such as this one arise from Zunibal’s strategy of focusing on environmental, social and good governance sustainability. Zunibal has been a certified in environmental management systems and Ecodesign for the last 10 years, under ISO 14001 and ISO 14006 standards respectively. We will continue to be committed to protecting the environment by reducing our environmental footprint, developing solutions for increasingly efficient fishing, implementing programs to reduce consumption and waste, and gradually integrating the principles of the circular economy into all stages of our product lifecycle processes.
