HarshLab: the first floating laboratory in a real offshore environment

Last Friday, July 20 ZUNIBAL attended the inauguration of the new facility developed by Tecnalia: the HarshLab. This floating laboratory is intended for testing in a real marine environment, the first in Europe.

HarshLab will provide accurate information to predict the behavior of materials, components and equipment with the aim of developing “offshore” energy systems, those generated at the sea. In addition, it will also facilitate analysis in the area of splash (where the wave breaks), in the area of immersion (under the surface, at different depths) and in the area of atmospheric exposure (above the surface).

The laboratory was inaugurated in Bermeo and was attended by the Minister of Economic Development and Infrastructure of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia.
