Will the ZUNFLOAT platform replace the traditional FAD?

Will the ZUNFLOAT platform replace the traditional FAD?

ZUNIBAL, in collaboration with the Purse Seiner Owner PEVASA, has developed the marine platform ZUNFLOAT for the tuna fishing, looking to reduce the unfavorable environmental impact of the traditional FAD over the oceans.

This initiative was born when both companies made in 2015 a studio of the traditional FAD, which is mainly used in the tuna seiners.

The results shown the traditional FAD generates much bigger environmental impact, 3 times higher than all the commercial FAD in the market.

The reason is the end of life, because the continuous mechanical movement of the waves makes the traditional FAD finally to break, as it’s a structure of different parts united together. In the best scenario the residues go to the dumping site, but in the worst they go to the ocean’s bottom or remain drift floating, finally arriving to the beaches as garbage.

In the other hand the ZUNFLOAT platform is manufactured in one unique strong piece that is reusable. The analysis made in the Atlantic Ocean demonstrated the ZUNFLOAT has a big strength and it supports the heavy weight of the object and behind, so it can be reusable many times.

In summary it’s proved the ZUNFLOAT platform is cleaner than the traditional FAD in environmental terms, so it helps to the tuna fishing to be more responsible and sustainable.
